The former US president has kept a low profile since leaving, but will resume his travels – and rallies – later in June.
Former President Donald Trump has said he will travel to the US-Mexico border later this month with Texas Governor Greg Abbott after the two complained about an increase in the number of migrants entering in the USA.
Trump, Abbott and other Republicans have slammed Democratic President Joe Biden for lifting Trump’s immigration restrictions as the number of migrants arriving at the border has reached the highest monthly levels in 20 years.
“The Biden administration inherited from me the strongest, safest, and most secure border in U.S. history and in just a matter of weeks it turned it into the worst border crisis in the world. history of the United States, “Trump said in a statement Tuesday, announcing that he had accepted an invitation from Abbott to visit the border on June 30.
“We have moved from border security that was the envy of the world to a lawless border that is now a source of pity around the world,” he added.
Republicans have been extremely critical of the Biden administration’s management of the border and have criticized Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who has been tasked with handling the immigration crisis, for failing to still visited the border since taking office in January.
Trump did not say where he would go along the 2,000 km (1,250 mile) border. Abbott’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The former president’s trip to the US-Mexico line will be his first since January 12, days before he left office, when he visited a section of the border wall in what was sort of a farewell victory tower.
Trump has made building a wall along the border an integral part of his presidency, saying it is necessary to stop illegal immigration and drug trafficking.
Biden issued a Executive Decree on his first day in office – Jan. 20 – which halted construction of the wall, claiming that “a massive wall that spans the entire southern border is not a serious political solution.”
Biden’s order was the first in a series of moves to undo many of the Trump administration’s immigration restrictions and put in place what the Biden administration called more humane policies.
Abbott said last week that his state build your own border wall, but it is not clear whether he has the resources and the legal authority to do so.
Trump’s trip to Texas comes as the former president returns to the public arena after leaving the White House.
Trump is scheduled to travel to Cleveland, Ohio on June 26 for a rally, and Tampa, Fla. On July 3, according to advisers.

In addition to his trip to the US-Mexico border on June 30, Trump is said to have organized a rally near Cleveland, Ohio on June 26 where he is expected to oppose candidates he has backed, including Max Miller, who is running to overthrow Republican Representative Anthony Gonzalez.
Gonzalez was one of 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Trump and drew the ire of the former president as well as Republicans in Ohio.
Trump is also said to have held a rally in Tampa, Florida on July 3, which would mark his second post-presidential public appearance in the state he now calls home. In February, Trump was talking at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando.
