Cheap and charming Citroën Ami electric vehicle is get a new model of van for urban delivery drivers. As the name suggests, the “Ami Cargo” offers room for storage in the same ultra-compact package for the slightly higher (but no less affordable) price of $ 29 per month. The French car manufacturer has made additional space by replacing the passenger seat with a modular trunk that can hold more than 140 kilos of goods.

Thus, the original two-seater has effectively been transformed into a single-seater, with a clear separation between the driver’s seat and the cargo area. There is also an adjustable floor height and a modular shelf that doubles as a desk. (In case you want to stop during deliveries to take a break or do some work).
And it is ultimately the target audience of Cargo. According to Citroën, the “van” is designed with “last mile delivery service providers” in mind. As retailers love Amazon turn towards sustainable vehicles for their fleets – including micro-machines such as rickshaw in India – the new Friend could be suitable for urban couriers and food and grocery deposits.
Best of all, it doesn’t even require a license to drive (at least not in France, where it will likely be used). Of course, there is no reason why teens and adults cannot use it for shopping and for carrying larger goods.
Aside from the extra space, the Cargo is similar to the original Ami in size and performance. It has a 6 kW electric motor mated to a 5.5 kWh battery under the floor, which allows a range of 47 miles. The new model measures 2.4 meters by 1.4 meters, which makes it suitable for city driving, and it has a top speed of 28 mph. It’s also cheap like its sibling, with prices starting at $ 7,821 or $ 29 per month under a long-term lease in France. L’Ami Cargo should arrive in early June.
