EA announced Codemasters’ first game since buying the Racing Specialist earlier this year. F1 2021 arrives on PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, and Steam on July 16.
The latest edition in the series, which is EA’s first F1 game since 2003 F1 career challenge, includes an extended career mode with options for two players. You will be able to team up with a friend or race against each other online, although EA has yet to confirm if F1 2021 will have cross-play support. Another new element of career mode is the real season start, which allows you to jump into the action at any point in the F1 season with the actual ranking of drivers and constructors.
F1 2021 also introduces a story mode called Braking Point. Codemasters in a press release, the fashion was “years in the making”. You will start in Formula 2 and try to be successful. Braking Point “immerses players in the glamorous world of F1, giving a taste of the on and off track lifestyle: the rivalries, emotion and dedication necessary to compete at the highest level,” according to EA.
You’ll get three new tracks for free as part of the Codemasters Post-Launch Roadmap. Several aspects of previous games will return, including My Team (which lets you run your own F1 team), a two-player split screen, esports features, and shorter season options. The PS5 and Xbox Series X / S versions will offer improved graphics and faster load times, with free upgrades from the PS4 and Xbox One editions.
EA closed its $ 1.2 billion Codemasters buyout in February after an outbid , but of course, F1 2021 was in development long before. EA to release at least one racing game per year in the future, as it now owns the Dirt, Grid, and Project Cars franchises in addition to Need for Speed and Burnout.
Racing fans may have to settle for F1 2021 this year, however. EA one year to focus on the next battlefield.
