Facebook is adding another developer to its growing stable Oculus Studios. The company has acquired Downpour Interactive, the team behind the VR multiplayer first-person shooter Forward. Facebook did not disclose the financial terms of the deal, but said the entire studio was included in the deal.
As for what this means for the future of Forward, both said they will continue to support the game on all platforms where it is currently available. This includes Steam, where Forward released in early access in 2016. With financial backing from Facebook, Downpour plans to start working on new projects. And while he didn’t share details on what it might be, he said he hoped “to bring these experiences to as many people as possible.”
When it comes to VR studios, Facebook has been shopping lately. Since the end of 2019, the company has acquired Beat Saber creator Beat Games, Sanzaru games and more particularly, Ready at dawn. The latter will release his last game, Lone Echo II, this summer.
