If you follow a service like DownDetector, you know there are outages of almost every type, every day, but it’s rare to see Facebook dive. However, today the main site is showing an error message as well, and it’s unclear how long it may take for things to recover.
The outage is also major, with Instagram and WhatsApp websites also inaccessible just a few weeks after their last outage. The Facebook Gaming platform had its own issues earlier, but tweeted that the current problems are “unrelated”.
Update (5:53 p.m. ET): Whatever happens, (it also destroyed Facebook’s internal websites, according to a Tweeter by Jane Manchun Wong) seems to resolve itself. Based on the reports and what individual Engadget editors see, some people can access websites and apps again without issues, but others still have intermittent issues.
