Garmin has announced a new smartwatch for explorers and extreme fitness enthusiasts. However, these are high-end gadgets with high-end specs, and their prices are correspondingly expensive.
First of all, the Epix Pro series. The main attraction of these watches is that they carry his AMOLED display which is bright and crisp. This is a design choice that provides sharp images without consuming too much battery life. It also has a built-in flashlight with multiple intensities and strobe modes, a red-only visual display option for dark conditions, and a host of advanced fitness features.
To that end, the Epix Pro series includes “dozens” of new preloaded activities, including soccer, basketball, horseback riding, and racquet sports. Fitness trackers now offer endurance and hill scores as advanced metrics. Runners and walkers also receive notifications about interesting spots along their route. There is a new weather map overlay to show local environmental conditions and upgraded shading to make it easier to understand elevation in topographic maps. The Epix Pro series is available now and comes in three sizes (42mm, 47mm and 51mm). Prices start at $900.
The Fenix 7 Pro series is for serious explorers and features solar charging, a powerful LED flashlight, mapping upgrades and a red safety light, all of which are highly visible when training in the dark like a ninja. It is intended to provide power. The heart rate sensor has also been significantly enhanced, with a new optical sensor and sport-specific algorithms tracking your pulse rate across a variety of activities. However, there’s no ECG app, so if that’s your main concern, you’ll have to look elsewhere.
The new Endurance Score feature combines your V02 sensor, Hill Score and previous training data to measure how easily you can engage in prolonged physical activity. Like Epix Pro, Fenix 7 features a modern mapping system with improved weather overlays, points of interest, and terrain maps. There are also new preloaded activities such as white water rafting and motocross. Starting at $800, the Fenix 7 Pro comes in a variety of sizes and designs.
