Google Play video app to leave Roku, Vizio, LG and Samsung TV platforms

Google is dropping the Google Play Movies & TV app for Samsung, LG, and Vizio smart TVs, as well as Roku devices. As of June 15, 2021, you will no longer be able to access the software on these platforms. Instead, you’ll have to go via YouTube to watch any content you have purchased in the past. All Google Play credits associated with your account will still be there, allowing you to purchase new movies and TV shows. However, your watchlist will not be transferred, and support for Family Sharing is more limited.

Google , but this went largely unnoticed until websites like and posted about the shutdown earlier today following an email the company sent to users. To be clear, Play Films and TV themselves won’t be joining Google’s graveyard on June 15. Google plans to eventually merge the app with its new but it’s an ongoing process, with the former still available for download on Android and iOS.
