Google slowly added call recording to his Call last year with a bunch of restrictions based on your device and region. Now it extends the functionality to let you automatically record calls from unknown numbers. Screenshots of the “Always save” setting have been shared with XDA Developers by a tipster who accessed it on the Google Phone app on a Xiaomi Mi A3 phone.
By activating the new feature, you won’t have to press the record button every time you make or receive a call, which is a handy extension for frequent users. As the update of original record, it was first spotted in an APK teardown, this time in January. Although it is apparently in the process of rolling out now, you can expect availability to be strictly limited due to differences in statutes and regulations that can make minefield call recording legal. Notably, some US states have passed laws requiring all parties to an appeal to consent to the recording.
Google already specifies this for new users in a prompt that reads: “When using the call recording feature, you are required to comply with applicable laws relating to call recording. Please note that many jurisdictions require the consent of both parties for such a registration, “It has also generally limited functionality to certain regions such as India and certain devices such as Xiaomi and Nokia phones.
