It was last announced fall as Craig Mazin and Neil Druckman, creators of the Emmy-winning HBO show Chernobyl are working on the script for the show. Despite being some of the best storytellers on television, expectations are high for the show. Since the video game’s launch in 2013, the game has been loved by millions of fans around the world, not only for its player interface, but also for its likable characters and cinematic storytelling.

The last of us will follow two people, Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), after an extinction level event and civilization is destroyed. A mutated strain of the Cordyceps fungus (“zombie” parasitic fungus) turns humans and animals into cannibal killers called infected. Joel is a smuggler hired to get Elle out of a quarantine area as she could be the cure for this infectious disease. They travel across the United States, avoiding the infected and the mercenaries. What starts off as a simple job for Joel turns into a makeshift family unit committed to protecting each other.
