Your spring calendar is probably already quite crowded. Your vaccine appointments are coming; the family is planning a visit; and maybe somewhere in there you’ll have a face-to-face date, the first in quite a while. (Lucky you.)
Make room on this overflowing pencil diary in another event, Apple is hosting a media presentation tomorrow, April 20. The event will be televised live and you can watch at home as the company showcases new, elegantly chamfered hardware.
It’s still hard to speculate on what such a secret company like Apple might be planning as these events approach, but we can set reasonable expectations of what we’ll see at tomorrow’s event based on ‘information disclosed and investigation reports in other outlets. Most signs point to new iPad—In particular, new models of iPad Pro and an update of the recently revived iPad Mini. According to Bloomberg, the larger of the new iPad Pros will have a brighter, more technically advanced display, and both Pro models will have faster chips and a Thunderbolt port to connect a wider range of accessories. Other reports indicate that we could see a new Apple Pencil on Tuesday, along with the arrival of AirTags, the little location report widgets that work with Apple’s Find My app.
We’re pretty sure we won’t be seeing any new iPhones, new AirPods, or macOS or iOS previews. IPhone hardware is traditionally released in the fall, and software presentations are the culmination of Apple’s global developer conference, which is already planned for june.
How to watch
Apple’s presentation will start at 1:00 p.m. Eastern, 10:00 a.m. Pacific, at Tuesday April 20. You can stream it right here in the player on this page. You can also view the feed on Apple website, in the Apple TV app or on the website Youtube channel.
This Apple TV option is new since last year. Now that Apple has its own streaming service, it also has a dedicated video app on mobile devices, Apple TV boxes, Roku boxes, and in some smart TVs. You can open this app and find the option to stream Tuesday’s event whether or not you subscribe to the monthly Apple TV + streaming service.
We recommend that you start the stream on your TV using your YouTube app or Apple TV app. The company’s carefully produced storefronts feature plenty of high-impact visuals that look great in the larger format. Also, if you watch it on your TV, it frees up your laptop to sneakily tweet into the twitterverse of Apple enthusiasts.
Expect Apple’s presentation to take around 60 minutes. Once the event is over, return to WIRED for coverage that summarizes the announcements and highlights industry trends that Apple is responding to and advancing both of its latest hardware.
