An Iowa high school student placed fourth at an international science contest held in Dallas in May.
Jacob Hall, an 18-year-old representative of Central Lee High School in Donelson, was selected for the Earth and Environmental Sciences category at the Regeneron International Science and Technology Fair (Regeneron ISEF).
Hall won $500 for a project on the effects of denitrification processes using bioreactors and crops such as wheat, oats and rye. He was judged based on the level of creativity, innovation and scientific inquiry of the project.
Hall plans to attend the University of Iowa to major in business.
Twelve other Iowa finalists competed, all selected based on their STEM research at regional fairs or the Iowa Science and Technology Fair.
“These highly talented Regeneron ISEF finalists are some of the brightest minds from around the world and are our greatest hopes for meeting global challenges in the future,” said Regeneron. said co-founder George Yankopoulos. “Science is essential to the survival of society, and these finalists have limitless potential to make a positive impact on the world. I look forward to seeing what we achieve.”
Regeneron ISEF awarded approximately $9 million to finalists this year. The competition was attended by more than 1,600 of her young scientists representing her 49 states, 64 countries, territories and territories around the world. The competition has been running for over 70 years and is the world’s largest global science competition for high school students.
