Inter Milan won the Serie A title for the first time in 11 years to end Juventus’ nine-year reign in Italy.
Antonio Conte’s side clinched their 19th ‘Scudetto’ on Sunday after their closest rival, Atalanta, drew 1-1 at Sassuolo to leave the ‘Nerazzurri’ with a 13-point lead with four games to go. .
Conte who started Juventus’ record-breaking run – winning the first three titles in a streak that spanned 2012-2020 – took over Inter in 2019 and lifted the trophy after finishing second last season.
“I am amazed,” Conte said.
“We are breaking a dynasty. Even in my wildest dreams, I couldn’t have imagined that we would catch up with so much ground in the squad that dominated Serie A for nine years in the span of two seasons.
Inter are now second in league trophies in Italy, one ahead of their 18 rivals AC Milan, but still a short distance from Juventus 36.
‘Champions of Italy’
The city of Milan erupted in a cacophony of car horns after the final whistle confirmed Inter as champions, with four games to lose, and fans immediately began to gather in the main square in front of the cathedral to celebrate.
Thousands of Nerazzurri fans gathered in Piazza Duomo, with flags and scarves, singing and chanting as they jumped and cheered regardless of coronavirus restrictions. Almost all wore masks, but many were lowered below the chin.

Juventus president Andrea Agnelli congratulated his Inter counterpart Steven Zhang on the Chinese club’s success.
“Well done Steven! Happy for you and proud to be your staunch opponent on the court and friend off the court. We will be back, ”Agnelli wrote on Twitter.
The Lombard team had not won Serie A since Jose Mourinho’s historic treble in the Champions League, Serie A and Coppa Italia in 2010.
Their last trophy was Coppa Italia in 2011 and they missed out on the Champions League for six seasons before Luciano Spalletti sent them back to Europe’s best club competition in 2018.
Conte is the 13th coach since Mourinho to sit on the bench at Nerazzurri and the club have changed hands twice in the past decade.
Billionaire Massimo Moratti, whose family controls Italian oil refiner Saras Group, sold to a consortium led by Indonesian business mogul Erik Thohir in 2013, with Chinese electronics retailer Suning Holdings Group taking a majority stake in 2016.
It is the first time that a foreign Italian team has won the league title.
