It’s Jes Macallan’s time in the spotlight! As Legends of tomorrow enters its sixth season, Sara Lance is on a spaceship far, far away as an alien captive. With the leaderless team, Ava Sharpe is stepping up. Much like his character, Macallan, takes control behind the camera with his first experience as a director in the series.

In conversation with THAT ONEMacallan mentions that she didn’t have a lot of experience, but Warner Bros. helped her familiarize herself with directing. “I took the Warner Bros. directing program. the same year as Caity, and I was biting a bit. ” As a TV actress for a few years, she used this time to observe various crew members to understand the mechanics of making a show and had the support of WB, CW, and Berlanti productions to make one of the craziest episodes of the season. “I have the craziest scenario, even for us, and I’m not just like a martyr. It’s one of the more banana episodes, and actually my partner Nic Bishop is a guest, so it’s cool that he’s in my episode as well.

As for Ava, she takes Sara’s absence badly. As a couple, the duo were stronger than ever – so *POOF * Sara is gone. “I feel like it got to a place where Sara and Ava really were – after all the trials and tribulations that come with two strong women trying to forge a personal relationship with the work and the time office, and all – have come to this wonderful place of, [Sighs] great, we can just be together, and how wonderful is that? And then damn it, she goes and gets kidnapped by aliens.

For those who watch the show, you know Ava stands by the rule when applying the law. However, I think we’ll see her character shake up the team and show a side of herself that fans haven’t seen before.

Season six of Legends of tomorrow premieres Sunday, May 2 on the CW.
