Marvel’s Avengers showed player IP addresses on screen after latest patch

A patch for Marvel Avengers just released which adds a new event and a new villain sector. In addition to fixing some bugs, the update introduced a new one: some players see text strings on their screen, which include the system’s IP address.

The text also contains the player’s username as well as the date and time, depending on Forbes, who first reported the bug. Several players have reported on the game subreddit and Twitter let them see the text while they play.

Since this bug was first noticed, the Marvel Avengers The Twitter account has been updated to note that the developer is testing a solution; a patch should be released tomorrow for the PS5 version around 8 a.m. The account also recommended that players do not stream or post screenshots until the issue is resolved.

the Marvel Avengers Twitter account recognized an “issue where a floating text string appears on screen”, but did not mention details. He urged gamers not to stream the game while he is working on a fix. Engadget has contacted publisher Square Enix for comment.

It is not a catastrophic bug, unless you broadcast Avengers gameplay or anyone else can see your screen. But it’s bad enough, and the latest in a long string of misfires for this game.

Even though Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix delayed release date for several months, players encountered hundreds of bugs at launch, many of which were corrected in an update few weeks later. Key updates such as the adding more heroes and the current generation console upgrades were delayed. Marvel Avengers did not meet either Square Enix’s business expectations.

Update, 3:45 p.m. ET: Update to note details of an upcoming fix for the issue.
