Netflix beats all studios with seven Oscars

Netflix had its best night at Oscars, taking seven Oscars on 31 nominations, including two victories for Ma Rainey’s black background and two for Mank, leading all studios. The only downside to the streamer’s night was that he lost for best Disney movie Nomadland and was excluded from acting awards.

Netflix won in the Hair & Makeup and Best Costumes for Ma Rainey’s black background, and production design and cinematography for Mank. It also took Best Documentary Feature to My octopus teacher, best live action short film for Two distant strangers and best animated short for If something happens i love you.

However, Netflix was set to win the Oscar for Best Actor for the performance of the late Chadwick Boseman in Ma Rainey’s black background, but the surprise winner in this category was Anthony Hopkins for The father (Sony Pictures). Other winners included Nomadland for Best Film, Best Director ChloĆ© Zhao and Best Actress Frances McDormand; Daniel Kaluuya for Best Supporting Actor (Judas and the Black Messiah) and Yuh-jung Youn as Best Supporting Actress for Threatening.
