Realme GT is the cheapest Snapdragon 888 smartphone (yet)

OnePlus may have long since abandoned the “lighthouse killer” slogan, but its sister brand Realme – the team that once brought us the “garlic” and “onion” phones – now rehash those two words for its latest global launch. the Realme GT, first launched in China in March, is finally hitting other markets with a starting price of 369 euros (around $ 450), making it the cheapest Snapdragon 888 smartphone in the world. For now anyway.

Before we dive into the specs (which, to be fair, are actually the most boring part of today’s flagship market), let’s take a look at the phone’s design. The Realme GT is available in three versions: “Racing Yellow”, “Dashing Silver” and “Dashing Blue”.

Personally, I’m all for the “Racing Yellow” which features vegan leather embellished with a shiny race track stripe. While I would probably keep the included protective case, I love the feel of the super-fine grain. This version has a thickness of 9.1mm and a weight of 186.5g which isn’t bad considering it’s only 0.7mm and 0.5g extra compared to the two other brilliant models, respectively.

The Realme GT ticks all the boxes for a 2021 flagship: Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, 120Hz Super AMOLED panel (6.43in, FHD +), integrated fingerprint reader, Dolby Atmos stereo speakers, two Nano slots SIM, NFC, 4,500mAh battery, and 35-minute fast charge (65W SuperDart charger included). If I must nitpicking, it would have been nice if Realme added a third microphone for even better noise cancellation.

The Realme GT comes with Realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11 and, for those who care, you can try Android 12 beta versions on this device before the next version of Realme UI later this year.

Realme also presents it as a mobile gaming device, thanks to its 360Hz touch sample rate, linear motor touch engine, 3.5mm headphone jack and stainless steel vapor cooling system – this can apparently reduce the core temperature by up to 15 degrees Celsius. You can activate a “GT mode” which pushes the processor performance and screen refresh rate to the max, as long as you keep an eye on the battery level.

Photography isn’t the Realme GT’s main selling point, but you still get a 64-megapixel f / 1.8 main camera, 8-megapixel (119-degree) ultra-wide camera, 2 macro camera. megapixel camera and a 16- mega-pixel punch-hole selfie camera. You will find the usual features like “Super Night Mode”, “Timelapse”, “Panorama View”, “AI Beauty” and video capture up to 4K / 60fps on the main camera.

The high-end 12GB RAM + 256GB storage option will be available for 499 euros (around $ 605) as part of Amazon Prime Day between June 21 and June 22. Realme is also working to bring its “flagship killer” to other major markets, namely the UK and India, which will undoubtedly threaten Xiaomi, Samsung and Huawei further. That said, the company currently has no plans to import its phones into the United States.

Realme TechLife robot vacuum

In addition to Realme’s surprisingly ambitious push into the global flagship smartphone market, the company is also launching its Techlife line of smart home devices, starting with a robot vacuum that sucks and cleans using LIDAR mapping and a 300ml water tank. It’ll cost 299 euros (around $ 360) when it starts pre-selling on AliExpress on June 16.
