Robosen Robotics Optimus Prime Collectible Responds to Voice Commands

Robosen Robotics has partnered with Hasbro to build a Optimus prime collector’s item that can do more than just look cool in a display case. The Business Optimus Prime is a programmable robot that can actually move: it can automatically transform into a vehicle, and vice versa, walk as a robot and run as a vehicle. This Optimus Prime can perform actions based on the voice commands you issue or what you enter through its companion app, which it receives via Bluetooth.

The robot responds to a variety of voice commands which include “go forward”, “deploy”, “move left / right”, “increase / decrease volume”, “stop”, “open fire” and “Attack”, among others. You can also tell her to “say hello” or ask her “who are you?” The actions are accompanied by sound effects and, for some of them, spoken dialogue by original Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen.

If you want the robot to move to your exact specifications, you will need to use its programming functions to move any of its 27 joints. The Missions section of the accompanying app will teach you how to program the machine with step-by-step instructions on how to move its servo-motorized joints. There are 60 missions in all and each one unlocks a new voice or sound effect. Once you are done, you will be able to move the robot’s joints in any sequence and then save them as your own “action sequence”, whether it’s making Optimus Prime dance or simply ask the Autobot leader to strike a pose. Note that you can ask the robot to play the song it’s dancing to by loading the file to its hard drive using the included microUSB cable.

In its announcement, Robosen says it took 11 years of research and development to produce a robot with such a comprehensive feature set. The Programmable Optimus Prime does not yet have an exact release date, but it is now available for pre-order from the Hasbro Pulse Fan Fest website for $ 699. If you’re not a big fan of Optimus, don’t worry – it looks like it’s just the first in a line of programmable Transformer collectibles.

Casey Collins, Managing Director and Senior Vice President at Hasbro, said:

“In our constant perseverance to elevate the branded game, Robosen’s advanced innovation in robotics will allow our fans to bring their favorite TRANSFORMERS characters to life in a way never before seen in collectibles.”
