Spotify already offers a host of custom playlists, and now the company is giving users even more control over generating those mixes. Drawing on mood, decades and genre playlists, the platform spotify today a feature that the company says combines all of its custom playlists “in a fun way.”
In short, you can now ask Spotify to create an algorithm-generated mix for almost any mood or genre. To do this, go to Spotify’s search bar and type in the activity you want the app to record for you and add “mix” at the end. You can be quite creative. I asked Spotify to create a witch house playlist for me, followed by another with relaxing video game soundtracks. Either way, Spotify agreed and did a pretty good job selecting the appropriate tracks. That said, sometimes you’ll come across situations where Spotify won’t produce an exact match for the mix you want. For example, I asked him to create a “dubstep work mix”, only to get a practice playlist instead.
As with the company’s other custom mixes, you can expect each playlist to feature a mix of familiar songs alongside tracks you may not have heard before. Niche Blends are available today for both Free and Premium users who search in English.
