Star Trek: PicardIt is third and final season is announced a fitting and nostalgic farewell to its titular hero so far, but does the journey of boldly going end when there is both the vast stretches of the final frontier And the capitalist mechanism of the mega-franchise to consider? Not really, but well, at least it could earn us a little more star trek.
A recent resurgence of interest in a new hiking series installed in picardthe early 25th century period – initially dubbed by fans as Star Trek: Titanas a chance to see Todd Stashwick’s Captain Shaw return to the helm of his ship from picard and go on new adventures – bubbled up this week as showrunners and cast took on to social media and interviews to buy into the idea. Except that now it has changed brands a bit, thanks to picard showrunner Terry Matalas: Star Trek: Legacy.
The idea, immediately grasped also by the actors of the series, seems already quite fleshed out in all their minds – a new hiking show in the vein of Strange new worldsfocusing on the Titanincluding Shaw, Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), Sidney and Alandra La Forge (Ashleigh Sharpe Chesnutt and Mica Burton, respectively), and Jack Crusher (Ed Speelers), as they continue the work of their parents and colleagues in exploring the galaxy. Hell, even Jonathan Frakes wants in, saying Emmy Magazine he even wants Riker and Troi’s daughter, Kestra, on board. “I could be like Charlie in charlie’s angelsthe admiral they check in with,” Frakes suggested.
With LeVar and Mica Burton leading the press circuit this week promoting their first appearances on picard In episode six of the seasonthey too weighed positively on the idea of Legacy like a new show. During an appearance alongside comrade picard guest star Whoopi Goldberg for ViewBurton supported the idea:
With petitions shared on social media backing a spinoff by Burton himself and Jeri Ryan, even as Matalas pointed out that no work is being actively done on pursuing picard, it seems like a lot of people are trying to make it exist. It wouldn’t be the first time this happened hikingcontemporary revival, or – after all, we have Strange new worlds in the first place fan’s back and critical endorsement of Anson Mount and Ethan Peck appearances in Discovery as Captain Pike and a young Spock.
But things are different now for hiking only when Strange new worlds has been revealed. While the franchise has grown rapidly over the past six years, it’s about to shrink a bit: in a month, picard will be completed, and early next year Discoverythe series that launched this new era, will be conclude with a fifth and final season. As streaming services tighten their belts and begin to slow down their approach of blanketing audiences with as much content as possible, at the time of Paramount’s plans for “All star trekall the time” may not be so desirable anymore. And it is before embarking on the projects that we TO DO soaps are on the back burner apart from continuing shows like Strange new worlds, Lower decksAnd Prodigyas a planned Starfleet Academy series, and Michelle Yeoh’s longtime project based on Section 31.
Even with the surprisingly intense demand for Star Trek: Legacy of fandom and creative team, it would be equally surprising if Paramount immediately greenlit the project before picard season three broadcast ends. If anything happens, it won’t be for a while, but it’s not hard to see there’s an audience there, if Paramount wants it.
