Apple’s AirTag item trackers are reasonably priced, small, and already quite useful. (I have one attached to my keys and slipped one in my wallet). However, they do require some sort of additional device to keep them attached to things. Yes, there are official (and cheaper, unofficial) key chains and items, but the lack of a key chain hole is a frustration. So can I do it myself and drill a hole?
According to a recent teardown of iFixit, Yes. It explains how to punch a hole in an AirTag – don’t forget to remove the battery first. Naturally, this also erases the water resistance of an unbuffered with AirTag. Accuracy is also crucial, otherwise you could easily crush the finely packaged electronics inside.
