Apple has set dates for WWDC 2023, which runs from June 5th to June 9th. It’s still an online-only event, but a “special experience” for developers and students will be held at Apple Park on the 5th.
We expect to see software-centric upgrades to iOS, macOS, and more, but this will also be when Apple finally debuts a mixed reality headset. It is believed to be a standalone device with an M2 chip, dual 4K displays, advanced body tracking and controller-free input. It can be expensive hardware even by Apple standards, with some reports as high as $3,000.

Sony has announced its latest and best vlogging camera yet, the full-frame ZV-E1. It’s equipped with the same backside illuminated (BSI) 12-megapixel sensor as his one of the company’s flagship cameras, the A7S III, promising excellent low-light performance and his 4K video up to 120p. The $2,200 price tag is also attractive to vloggers, as it offers features found in the $3,500 A7S III thanks to a full-frame sensor. Important for people like me who are obsessed with old ZV-1 vlogging cameras, it uses the same Z battery as the larger Sony models. Pre-orders will be accepted from tomorrow and will be shipped in early April.

The open letter warns of risks to humans.
An open letter signed by technology leaders and prominent AI researchers calls on AI labs and companies to “immediately pause” their work. Signatories such as Steve Wozniak and Elon Musk put the development of technologies beyond GPT-4 on hold for at least six months to allow people to adjust and make sure they benefit everyone. I agree with you. The letter adds that securing AI systems requires care and forethought, which may not have been achieved. We are competing to build the system. Microsoft recently confirmed that its revamped Bing search engine has been powered by the GPT-4 model for over seven weeks. Google also debuted Bard, his LaMDA-powered proprietary generative AI system.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) has determined that renewable power generation will overtake coal in 2022, with 4.09 billion MWh coming from solar, wind, hydroelectric, biomass and geothermal technologies. This change has been brought about by increasing renewable energy capacity and the decline of coal over the years. Wind power is the main source of clean electricity, and capacity has surged from 133 GW in 2021 to 141 GW in a year. However, natural gas is still the top power source with a 39% share.

This may not be enough to drive you to Costco and back, but this is a hybrid vehicle and not meant to be fully electric. In minutes, it charges a fairly small battery of 3.8 kWh by itself. If you’re waiting for an all-electric Lamborghini, the company still plans to introduce one by 2030.
