It’s been five long years since the last one Star Trek movie and while the next one is still a long way off, there is at least some light at the end of the tunnel (or wormhole) for the Trekkers. Paramount Pictures announced June 9, 2023 as the release date for an untitled Star Trek movie, according to Variety. Last month the studio hired Star Trek: Discovery writer Kalinda Vazquez at pen the script for a film based on an original idea of his, but we don’t know if it’s the same project.
It remains to be seen whether Paramount sticks to this date. There have been several attempts to follow up on Star Trek: Beyond in recent years, including one by Quentin Tarantino, but none have yet taken place.
Between now and the release of the next film, fans will have several new seasons of Star Trek shows to check out. Paramount +. Discovery and Lower decks will return later this year, while the second season of Star Trek: Picard will arrive in 2022.
Meanwhile, Paramount has changed its schedule for other films, with a ripple effect on future films, as theaters continue to reopen slowly amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Top Gun: Maverick moved from July 2 to November 19, while Mission: impossible 7 has been postponed from the latter date to May 27 of next year. The next film in the Mission: Impossible saga will now be released on July 7, 2023 instead of November 4, 2022. In the meantime, Dungeons and dragons, which was scheduled for May 27 next year, has been postponed to March 3, 2023.
