Be prepared to pay a little more to watch live streamers without being constantly interrupted by ads. Twitch’s ad-free Turbo subscription plan has increased in price, jumping from $9 to $12 per month in the US. Twitch has not provided any feature changes or add-ons for this price increase. Turbo monthly costs are increasing worldwide and the prices in your country are changing.
Current Turbo subscribers were informed of the price change in an email sent Thursday, but there’s some good news for longtime users. In some countries, the monthly fee is even cheaper, but you have to cancel and re-enroll. Current users will also have a grace period of 3 months before being forced to opt-in to the new pricing. There is no such grace period for new subscribers.
The big increase comes on the heels of Amazon-owned Twitch getting a new CEO and laying off about 400 employees as part of the overall parent company. No new features were announced along with the price increase, but Twitch announced that “updates are in the works to make Turbo even better and more relevant.” More information will be provided “in the coming months.”
Turbo’s main feature is an ad-free experience across the Twitch platform, but it also offers some smaller perks like more emojis, custom chat username colors, and more broadcast storage. The updated pricing model starts today.
