Skull and bones will again miss its previous release date. Ubisoft said it now expects to release the Pirate Game in its 2022-2023 fiscal year, which runs from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023. For those following, this is the fourth time Ubisoft has delayed Skull and bones. Following a reveal at E3 2017, the company had originally planned to release in 2018. It then pushed the game back to 2019, mid 2020, 2021 and now 2022.
Last year, Elisabeth Pellen, the artistic director of the game, attributed the ongoing delays to a change of vision. Initially, the premise of Skull and bones was simple. It was supposed to adapt the combat mechanics of the ships of Black flag for multiplayer and remove all the narrative threads that make the Assassin’s Creed franchise difficult to follow. Things have changed since. “The answer is, we just needed more time. We dreamed of something bigger for Skull and bones, and these ambitions naturally came with greater challenges, ”she wrote at the time. “As Skull and bones has evolved from its original idea to what it is now, it was also necessary to have a fresh outlook joining the team.
In the meantime, Ubisoft fans may be looking forward to playing some of the company’s most popular games on new platforms. In the same earnings report, the company said it would release Rainbow: Six Siege and For honor on Stadia before the end of June.
