John Wick: Chapter 4 I just had a killer weekend at the box office, grossing $73.5 million, the biggest opening weekend again for the franchise and the second largest opening of Keanu Reeves’ careerbehind The matrix reloaded.

That means a whole bunch of you saw the action movie this weekend but we assume that you are not all saw the surprise which was reserved for the very end of the credits. It is bbecause, yes, for the first time in John Wick the story, there was a credits. And it’s a doozy. Spoilers follow, of course.

    Chart: io9

After an ending that sees John Wick and his friends achieve their goals in more than one way (more on that in a second), the credits pick up with Caine (Donnie Yen) carrying a bouquet of flowers and going to see his daughter, who he spent the whole movie trying to save. It should be a happy time for the now-retired assassin, but the movie left a thread hanging. It’s Akira (Rina Sawayama), whose father Koji (Hiroyuki Sanada) was killed by Caine earlier in the movie. “I’ll be waiting for you”, Caine told him at the time. SO in the end credits, like Caine begins to approach his daughter, a hooded Akira emerges and pulls a knife as she walks towards him. This is the moment Akira chose to get revenge on Caine for only killing his father, the scene ends there.

By ending the scene there, John Wick: Chapter 4 director Chad Stahelski does two things. He has both strongly implies that Akira takes revenge and kills Caine but alsowithout showing it, leaves his options open for him not happen too, in case we see these characters again. Which, after that nearly $75 million opening, seems very possible. (despite what he had said in the press). About that potential comeback though…let’s talk about the actual ending of the movie for a second.

G/O Media may receive a commission

(I’m going to drop a rare second spoiler warning here in case you read this just to find out the end credits scene was but you haven’t seen the movie because the movie ends with an even bigger spoiler . Be careful.)

    Chart: io9

    Last chance. Ready? All right.

John Wick: Chapter 4 to end by John Wick dying. Probably. Maybe. He takes a bullet in the stomach, collapses, and later the two Winstons (Ian McShane) and the Bowery King (Lawrence Fishburne) sympathize at his grave. But here comes the question, is Wick really dead? Or is it just the idea of ”John Wick,” A unstoppable assassin, dead, and the grave is put there just so that the man can live a life of peace?

Here, we have to imagine, you can believe anything you want. Stahelski again leaves this open to interpretation, so if there is ever another John Wick movie, we can all agree that he is dead. Or, if Lionsgate throws a truckload of money at their doorstep and Chapter 5 happens, they can just say it was a ruse. Personally, eeven if never Chapter 5I want to believe it’s a lie anyway. Wick just wanted to live a peaceful and quiet life and by faking his death, he will be able to do as much Easier. For me, it’s the happiest ending, and just oh so Wick. Do you agree? Let us know below.
