India has reported more than 300,000 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, the highest daily global total, while COVID-19-related deaths have also jumped from a record high.
India’s daily rise of 314,835 cases surpasses the previous world’s highest daily increase of 297,430 cases reported by the United States in January.
The total number of cases in India is now 15.93 million, while deaths have increased by 2,104 to a total of 184,657, according to data from the Ministry of Health.
